What is GIS?
A:
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a combination of computer hardware and software used to map and analyze real world features such as roads, streams, street signs, and more. The technology lets analysts discover relationships between the data that might not be easily understood otherwise.

What is the Interactive Map & App Gallery?
A:
The Interactive Map & App Gallery is a collection of web maps and web applications to be used on any device. These maps and applications were created to work on PC or Mac computers (using a browser) or via most tablets or mobile phone. The Map & App Gallery is updated frequently to create new applications to answer common questions such as "When will my leaves be collected?" or "Where can I park in Old Town?". What is the difference between the Interactive Map & App Gallery, the Interactive Manassas Map, and the Map Catalog?
A:
The Interactive Map & App Gallery is a collection of interactive maps and applications that can be accessed on any computer or mobile device. The Interactive Manassas Map is a website that allows users to interact with many of the Manassas GIS layers. The user can zoom in and out and add/remove data as needed. The Map Catalog provides static maps as PDF files that are frequently requested by citizens.

What kind of software do I need to view and print maps from the Map Catalog?
A:
The maps provided in the Map Catalog are available in Adobe Portable Document File (PDF) Format and can be viewed and printed using Adobe Reader. A free download is available from the
Adobe website.

What kind of software do I need to use the Interactive Maps?
A:
The Interactive Manassas Map and the Interactive Map & App Gallery require the use of an internet browser capable of handling HTML5 code. Internet Explorer 9 or higher, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox are all recommended.

How often is the Interactive Manassas Map updated?
A:
All efforts are made to update the data on the Interactive Manassas Map and other interactive maps on a monthly basis.

How do I obtain a specialized map or view older aerial photographs?
A:
