Business Licenses

Business, Professional, and Occupational Licenses (BPOL)

Individuals engaging in most home occupations and self employment must file.
Renewal license applications must be filed and the tax paid by March 1 each year.
New licenses must be obtained prior to the date the business began in Manassas City.
If gross receipts are $50,000 or less, there is no tax due. However, a business license is still required.
For businesses with gross receipts of $50,001 or greater, the tax rate is determined by the business classification.
If a business, which has paid a license tax, ceases to operate a refund may be obtained for the portion of the tax already paid.
Contractors must also submit a Contractor's Certification of Insuring Liability for Workers' Compensation in Virginia (Form 61A). More info...
