Your Yard Waste Gets Recycled Too

As we get closer to Spring, everyone starts thinking about what they need to do in the garden. The City of Manassas collects over 2,000 tons of leaves, grass trimmings, brush, wood chips, and shrub and tree trimmings every year.

Here are 5 fast tips to make your yard waste collection easier:

  • Only use paper yard waste bags or private containers. Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected and you could receive a fine of up to $500 for removal.
  • All branched must be bundled and tied for collection. A strong wind or rain could move loose brush into the street or down the storm drain.
  • Yard waste is collected on Mondays only. Set everything out on Sunday night to ensure collection.
  • Do not sweep leaves or grass clippings into the storm drain. Flooding happens when storm drains are blocked and can cause damage to your home and garden.
  • If you use a landscaping or gardening service – make sure you let them know the rules! Ordinances vary from one jurisdiction to another.

Yard waste does not include stumps, whole trees, large branches or limbs or clean-up from storm damage. Removal of trees that are trimmed or cut down by landscapers or tree services are the responsibility of the resident or property owner and will not be collected by the City.
