Civil War Recycling

Appeal for blankets during the Civil War

The Citizen’s Advisory Committee on Solid Waste has been working on a project looking at the importance of recycling during the Civil War. Their research has uncovered a wealth of information on the way materials like paper, metal and textiles were reused on the battlefield and back at home. The American Civil War Museum found the research fascinating and published an article acknowledging the hard work of the committee and adding their own contributions to the project. You can view the article right here! The final exhibit is in production and we will let you know when and where you can see it. Keep recycling – it’s part of our history!
