Murals

A mural is defined as "is any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall, ceiling or other LARGE surface. A distinguishing characteristic of mural painting is that the architectural elements of the given space are harmoniously incorporated into the picture."

Murals bring art from the private to the public sphere, add visual and aesthetic value to neighborhoods, and provide a medium to display the history, beliefs and culture of a community. When appropriately executed, murals can enhance the character of a historic district.

To create a mural in the City of Manassas there are a few steps necessary before beginning to paint. Please read the Mural Guidelines and follow the steps before initiating a project.
